All Out for the Big Parade

Happy 4th of July!!

Thinking of all of my family and wishing I were there to watch the big parade, eat hot dogs, ice cream cups, and drink diet cola. This will be the first time I have missed the festivities in 15+ years, and I am just glad the 4th lands on a Wednesday only every 7 years!

Summer Night Cookin'

Summer is the best time for one thing...grilling! So how do you have a yummy seasonal meal when you live in a city and have zero outdoor space for bbqin' ? Well, here is my best attempt...

-Juicy watermelon
-Corn on the cob sprinkled with Parmesan cheese and Cayenne powder
-Grilled (pan) chicken breast seasoned with Cayenne powder and a Mexican blend and then topped with melted cheese and salsa

Mmmmm.....

Digging for Gold

My weekends when Joeys is on call can be a little...slow. Especially during the summer when peeps are taking trips to the beach, going on vacations, and grilling out, and I am waiting for the possibility that maybe, just maybe, he will be home before 6 so we can take a walk around the pond.  Lets just say I have a lot of time to watch Bravo and shop. Sadly, I don't have the budget to hit Newbury Street every time I'm bored so I make it a personal challenge to see what cute duds I can nab with just a little cash.

You all saw the Goodwill goodies that I have collected so far this summer, but don't think I pass up the clothes and just bee line for the home section. I try to take my time and dig through everything to see what hidden gems I can find. I look for brand names and barely worn pieces that I can mix and match into my wardrobe. ANY sign of wear and its a no go- I have to be super picky because if it looks a little drab in the store then it will look awful when I get it home. Here are a few things I pick up recently.

WD NY colorful cardi/ H&M plaid shirt/ J Brand black Jeans/ Forever21 chiffon floral top/ Isabella Rodriguez striped cardi/ Forever 21 black shift dress/ Banana Republic ruffle dress/ Vintage black leather purse/ Fioni faux TB flats

I can't fight spending less 1/4 the cost of the J Brand jeans alone for all of these pieces. I got lucky with the faux Tori Burch flats because they were unworn and will be perfect when I'm just running around town and don't want to wear out my real ones.

It takes some real digging and patience, but these will be items that will fall seamlessly into my wardrobe and make me feel less guilty come bill paying time.

Anyone else have any 2nd hand finds that made you jump for joy in the dressing room?

Decisions, Decisions...

Do any of you have those rooms in your house that just never feel quite right? Something feels a little bit off and you can't pin point what it is? Just the energy feels weird?

That is hands down my guest room. I would consider myself a pretty decisive person when it comes to design, but there is something really off about my guest room and it kills me! I have rearranged the furniture 3 times, painted the walls twice (with 10' ceilings that was a challenge on its own), and I am on my third rug.

That's where you all come in. The dang rug.

I purchased this chevron rug about 9 months ago because I could not pass up the deal for a nearly 8x11ft rug for less than $150.

Rugs USA Home Value Chevron Ivory Rug

The quality was only so-so. Not super plush and probably would not last us more than a few years, but fine for the moment.

Well, clearly I didn't plan things out in my head because a black rug + two white kittens = cleaning nightmare.

 Yuck.

And that pic was taken AFTER I vacuumed. No matter how hard I tried the fur just will not come up and I refuse to get OCD over getting every little thing up- I would go insane!

So I have given into my defeat and decided to try yet another rug.

I saw this one from Urban Outfitters last week and descided to give it a shot. With free shipping and a code I pulled off of Retailmenot.com I was able to snag it for $74.

I still love the chevron pattern, but I decided to go with a beige color instead of the black. It has a more woven texture than a wool feel- kinda like an outdoor rug maybe? Its a 5'x7' so significantly smaller than the black one too.

I just can't decide if I'm feeling it. What you you think? Is it too small? I have not moved the other rug out because it will be a pain to move the furniture if I decide not to keep this Urban one. I like the lighter look and its neutral so I can add any accent colors without worrying about clashing.

What do you think?? Yay or Nay?
