Takin', Fakin' & Makin': Iced Coffee

I have officially decided that there is no way I could be a southerner-I think if my summers were always this toasty I would set up camp in the freezer section at the grocery store. Temps in Boston have reached nearly 100 degrees for the last two days and as Joey said, "It's as hot as a whore house in nickle night!"

I have been trying to stay in the AC as much as possible, but even the 15 minute car ride to work leaves me with a nice case of swamp butt. Lovely :)

This weeks TFM sums up when I have been clinging to to stay cool.

Yummy!

Takin', Fakin' & Makin : Wedding Invites

Its Friday, Friday, gettin' down on Friday... I still love/hate that song by the way. Yet every Thursday night when I go to write my post its the first thing that comes to mind :) This weekend we are doing a little road trippin' down to NJ to visit some family so it will be a whirlwind I am sure. But I wanted to leave you with a good TFM before we hit the road.

I am pretty sure that weddings, baby showers, and bachlorette parties have taken over my Facebook news feed Friday through Sunday. Anyone else feeling the same? I did a DIY shower gift a few weeks ago by antiquing and framing our wedding song, you should check it out if you need a thoughtful gift and don't want to spend big bones.

This week's TFM is geared toward all you brides out there. I know when I got engaged I was totally overwhelmed with all the invitation choices and had no idea where to start. There are so many price points, materials, fonts, and colors available that the possibilities seemed endless. Well, hopefully these options will show you that you can spend as much or as little as you want and still get an amazing invite that reflects you and your special day.

Takin', Fakin' & Makin' : Bold Lampshade

TGIF!! Why is it that a short holiday week seems to last the longest?? Maybe it is the beautiful weather and the sun calling my name, but all I can say is I can't wait for 5pm :)

I am in the process of trying to add some life to the matching clear lamps that are on the dresser in my bedroom, and I thought that this week's TFM would be a great way to gather some inspiration for the direction that I could go.

There are sooooo many adorable fabric covered lampshades out there at such a wide array of prices- the choices are endless. But the trouble I have is finding the exact one that goes with my color pallet or vibe of the room. I have spotted shades ranging from $10-150 depending on the fabric and quality, but all are great additions to a room in need of a pop of color. Plus, if you have a lamp base that just needs a new identity then swap a blah shade for something fun!

Of course, I am all about the DIYed version since it means the fabric choices are unlimited, but for those of you that don't have the crafty bug then these sources have great options for you.

Takin', Fakin' & Makin' : Maxi Skirt

Can you believe that is already May 18th?! Spring went by and a flash and in just a few short days the official kickoff to summer will be upon us.

I when did a makeover in my closet a few weeks ago (which I talked about here) I quickly discovered the I was missing one summer staple- the long jersey knit maxi.

I thought that would be a great theme for this weeks Takin', Fakin' & Makin' board since there are tons of options at various price points, plus with such a super simple construction it is totally a DIY for the beginner seamstresses out there.

Loving all of these options but, if you can't guess already, the DIY version is on my agenda for this weekend. Plus, since I am on the taller side (5'7") I can make sure the length is just right. My biggest problem will be deciding what color jersey knit to choose! Life is really tough :)

Takin', Fakin' & Makin' : Quote Pillow

Happy Friday, Everyone!

I'm on a mission to bulk up my pillow inventory on our living room sofa so I have been doing a little web perusing this week. I feel like pillows can be fun and colorful with bold patterns, but you need to have a one or two neutral pillows worked in there to give the eye a break.

I was browsing my favorite website- Anthro of course- and just about died over this statement (literally) pillow.

But at almost $200 bones I thought that it would be a great candidate for this weeks Takin', Fakin' & Makin' board. The natural linen with black text is a perfect neutral paired with a graphic pattern or fun counterpart.

Anthropologie $198 (Takin')
Target $19.99 (Fakin')

Check out last weeks Takin', Fakin' & Makin' board if you didn't get a chance- that will explain the TFM concept and how you can use it to source or make some great stuff!

Takin', Fakin' & Makin' : Chevron Rug

After watching the High-Low Project on HGTV (love that Sabrina Soto!) I thought that having a Takin' (all ya $$s), Fakin' (the look like a pro) & Makin' (it like a crafty chic) board would be a great inspiration for those DIYers gearing up for weekend projects. This weekly feature will showcase an item that may be out of your budget but totally amazeballs, a comparable item that is at a better price point, and the a DIYed version if you are looking to really show off your skills.
