Slip into Something Comfy

I am on the hunt for a good "bridge shoe". Something that will take me from summer over to fall since I am not ready to break out the boots just yet.

I have been lusting over the slipper shoes out there, but as usual, my budget is pretty limited. But then I came across these super affordable options at none other than good old JCPenny.

Check it out...the top pic was my inspiration and below are my finds!

When was the last time I had even been into a JCPennys....1997 maybe? Who knew they still existed?! I am not sure if there is one close to me, but luckily these adorable shoes are available online. They range from $15-$40 so I am not feeling too guilty about that this little seasonal addition.

Rules, Shmules...

So I have a confession. I am such a cheapo that I had been holding off buying any clothes (other than my thrift store finds) for the last few months because I knew once labor day hit everything would go on super sale. I went the whole summer lusting over a classic pair of white skinny jeans and finally caved when they were on super sale at Old Navy. They were 30% off, plus I bought them through Ebates which gave me an additional 5% cash back. So all in all, I was at $23ish all in. Yep, I am that cheap...

Here is the dilemma, I ordered them with enough time to wear them at least once before the "no white after labor day" deadline, but I was a dumb butt and entered the wrong shipping zip code on my order. So it was no surprise that when my delivery date came and went, Old Navy customer service said "No problem, we will reship those to you but please allow 9 to 12 business days for redelivery." Poops:(

Then after some inner reflection and realizing that this was serious #firstworldproblems, I decided,  "Skrew it!" I am wearing these suckers as long as I want. So sue me! I totally think that white pants can be transitioned into a fall look with no problemo.

Here are a few looks that I pulled together to demonstrate that I am thinking for my white skinnys this season.

Sneak Peek into KFD

Quick sneak peek into what is coming up this fall at Katie Fobes Design on Etsy!

Super excited for this new leopard pattern, and I am just deciding what other colors to add to the mix. But I think the most important thing is for me to ask, "What colors do YOU want to see available this fall?"

What are you gravitating towards this season when picking your accessories?

Going for darker, moodier neutrals? Or are you feeling the bold pops of color to liven up your look?

Let me know and I will make it happen!!

Cardi Face Lift

It still feels wrong that I am starting to sort through my fall sweaters and see what I want to keep and what to give away before the season starts.

I have this pretty simple sweater for American Eagle that is pretty basic, but a great color for this fall- Coral! As I have mentioned before, coral is a great transitional color for this cooler season and I think with a little face lift this sweater will be a great option.

The buttons were a little drab for my taste so I wanted to jazz up up with some bling. I scoured Ebay for gold buttons and I landed on these gold and rhinestone 1" buttons. And at $3.99+shipping the would a steal. If I had gone to Jo Ann's it would have been that price for two, and I got eight for less than $6 total.

I also decided to go with plastic vs. metal because with the sweater being on the lighter side, I was concerned that a heavy metal button would weigh it down. If this were a coat I would have definitely gone for the metal though.

I grabbed my trusty needle and thread and whipped those suckers on in about 10 minutes.

Total upgrade!

I think I can milk at least another 2-3 weeks out of my summer wardrobe if the weather keeps cooperating, but I will be excited to have this "new" cardigan in my arsenal of fall layering pieces.

Transitional Coral

As I mentioned, I am just recovering from trade show madness. But I was able to sneak in a little time for myself and make good on my new resolution- spoil myself with a manicure or pedicure at least once an month (as I mentioned last week). I spent last Thursday helping to unpack my parents new house and my mom and I snuck out and got mani/pedis as a fun treat.

Let me just say I am obsessed with the color I got on my toes:
Boat House by Essie. IN LOVE.

It inspired me to look into how I can work this coral into my summer-to-fall wardrobe.

Nailed It.

I have officially determined that I don't paper myself enough. I have really restricted my shopping habit, I only get my hair cut 2-3 times per year (bad, I know!), I don't buy pricey makeup, and I have not gotten a massage since my honeymoon. #firstworldproblems

And with this being my birthday month, I am making a personal resolution to take a little time and really do something just for me. I am going to try to get my nails done (or do them myself) at least once a month.

I have been lusting over some colors lately, and even though my all time fave color is a simple and classic Essie Ballet Slippers, I think its time to go outside of the box (or bottle!)

These are a few that inspired me to take the plunge...

Digging for Gold

My weekends when Joeys is on call can be a little...slow. Especially during the summer when peeps are taking trips to the beach, going on vacations, and grilling out, and I am waiting for the possibility that maybe, just maybe, he will be home before 6 so we can take a walk around the pond.  Lets just say I have a lot of time to watch Bravo and shop. Sadly, I don't have the budget to hit Newbury Street every time I'm bored so I make it a personal challenge to see what cute duds I can nab with just a little cash.

You all saw the Goodwill goodies that I have collected so far this summer, but don't think I pass up the clothes and just bee line for the home section. I try to take my time and dig through everything to see what hidden gems I can find. I look for brand names and barely worn pieces that I can mix and match into my wardrobe. ANY sign of wear and its a no go- I have to be super picky because if it looks a little drab in the store then it will look awful when I get it home. Here are a few things I pick up recently.

WD NY colorful cardi/ H&M plaid shirt/ J Brand black Jeans/ Forever21 chiffon floral top/ Isabella Rodriguez striped cardi/ Forever 21 black shift dress/ Banana Republic ruffle dress/ Vintage black leather purse/ Fioni faux TB flats

I can't fight spending less 1/4 the cost of the J Brand jeans alone for all of these pieces. I got lucky with the faux Tori Burch flats because they were unworn and will be perfect when I'm just running around town and don't want to wear out my real ones.

It takes some real digging and patience, but these will be items that will fall seamlessly into my wardrobe and make me feel less guilty come bill paying time.

Anyone else have any 2nd hand finds that made you jump for joy in the dressing room?

LBD Identity Crisis

So in true low-man-on-the-totem-poll style Joey and I have just received an invite to the graduation dinner for the chief residents in his program...yeah its in 3 days...thanks for the heads up. All the heads of his department will be there so there will be alot of schmoozing (aka kissing some tushie) involved.

Did I mention this is a FORMAL event- like black tie optional?? Freak out!
I ran home and busted into my closet to see what my options are because I don't have the time or the dinero to go buy a new outfit between now and Friday.

Thank goodness for the LBD- that girl saves the day every time. I have a black strapless dress that just needs some accessories to dress it up. But here is where I'm stumped :

Do I go classic and conservative and do my best "doctor's wife" impression? Mind you, all the while I will be stuffing the dinner rolls in my pockets because its the only comped event we have been invited to in the last two years...

Or, do I go fun and playful with bold colors to show that I am not a typical dorky resident wife that has her nose in the books along side her hubs?

Help!

Takin', Fakin' & Makin' : Maxi Skirt

Can you believe that is already May 18th?! Spring went by and a flash and in just a few short days the official kickoff to summer will be upon us.

I when did a makeover in my closet a few weeks ago (which I talked about here) I quickly discovered the I was missing one summer staple- the long jersey knit maxi.

I thought that would be a great theme for this weeks Takin', Fakin' & Makin' board since there are tons of options at various price points, plus with such a super simple construction it is totally a DIY for the beginner seamstresses out there.

Loving all of these options but, if you can't guess already, the DIY version is on my agenda for this weekend. Plus, since I am on the taller side (5'7") I can make sure the length is just right. My biggest problem will be deciding what color jersey knit to choose! Life is really tough :)

Splendid via Shopbop $83 (Takin')
Swell $44.50 (Fakin')
Elle Apparel Maxi DIY (Makin')
